So I'm thinking I might dress up a bit like a Pirate to introduce the song. We will talk about how a treasure maps are plans to help pirates find Treasure. So we can each be a P.I.R.A.T.E.--People, in righteousness, achieving treasures eternal. I will show them our Treasure map:
We will move along the map as we complete tasks and sing parts of the song. The song is broken into four sections. There will be four tasks that will help them discover Heavenly Father's map and treasure (the words to the song, broken into four groups). (I will have one volunteer complete each task so it will move fairly quickly)
With the completion of each task they will receive directions that lead to a strip of pictures to help learn the song:
1st task (open a gift with big snow gloves on)--my life is a gift
2nd task (army crawl under ropes to get flashlight to read message in dark box)--seek for God's light
3rd task (walk on row of chairs holding on to a broom stick--iron rod)--holding fast to his word and his love
4th task (hopscotch across floor)--I will always walk in his way

I hope this isn't too confusing. The treasure at the end is that we will be Happy on Earth and in our Home above...so we'll talk about that as the treasure that our Father gives us for following his plan (or map).
Feel free to leave suggestions or your own ideas.
Man, if I hadn't just put a ton of work into my own idea, I would totally do this, maybe I will steal this for another day this month. Good job. Do you have pdf files for the work you did?
ReplyDeleteHeather, I wish I had more to give you. I drew the Pirate Map and the pictures are black and white clipart files I found by googling free clipart. I didn't want to use my color ink on my printer so I hand-colored everything (not my best idea...next time I will use the printer, it would go faster). Sorry I'm not more help, I am new at this.
ReplyDeleteI'm not really into the Superbowl or even wanted to incorporate Groud Hog's day. I appreciate you sharing this fun idea and will be incorporating it into Jr. for sure.
